What the papers said

Once again we are indebted to Willie Derry and who has furnished us with some articles that were printed in the local newspapers in the early 1960's.These articles relate to Springtown Camp and the residents struggle for proper houses. The articles provide a good understanding of what life was like for the residents and the conditions in which they were forced to live and some of the reasons for it.As a boy growing up in Springtown Camp I must say i was blissfully unaware of the conditions. On reading the accounts from the newspapers of the time it is clear that they were dreadful and the residents battle with the authorities was truly an historic struggle.
