Springtown Camp
Monument planned:

It has been announced that Willie Deery has been in contact with the planning authorities with a view to having a permanent monument erected to the memory of the residents of Springtown Camp. This is what Willie had to say:
I have, in the past few weeks written to the Planning Authorities and the owners of the part of land that was formerly the entrance to Springtown Camp (It is now the entrance to the Springtown Industrial Estate) with a view to getting permission to erect a small monument at the "Gate" which recognizes Springtown Camp as an important part of Derry City's historical past. I believe it would be a fitting tribute to the ex-residents and indeed to the USA Naval personel who lived there also. With the camp's 40th anniversary coming up this October it would be the perfect timing.
LET'S SEE IT HAPPEN!

Willie Deery

Willie Deery says:
"I have been in touch with the planning authorities. I think a monument would be a fitting tribute to the people of Springtown Camp and its history. Springtown Camp deserves to be remembered"
